Adventure 18: Cancer Killers by Align Family Chiropractic

My sister was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She's been making regular trips up to the Huntsman Cancer Center, which has been nice for her Salt Lake sisters, because we get to see her once a week. I've been really impressed with her proactive attitude about this. She immediately started making lifestyle changes that have inspired us all to do better! She also has a blog documenting her journey.

We started our morning at the Downtown Farmer's Market, which really isn't relevant to this adventure except that we're all trying to eat more healthy.

I just want to note how empty the market was! I've never been to the market with so few people. I could actually hear the musician on this corner. Also, we were able to stop and chat with the farmers at their stands! I can't remember being able to do that for more than 30 seconds before the next customer interrupts. Bonus: We got to know our garlic guy better than I think we wanted to. Small price to pay for amazing garlic.

Also, look at these pumpkins! I want all of them.

Okay, back to it. We now go to the Sorenson Unity Center for the featured event. The center is located on the west side of Salt Lake City.

This whole event was arranged by Align Family Chiropractic.

The email said to make sure we got there 10 minutes early. I guess they were planning on everyone being late? Because we showed up 5 minutes before the recommended time, and waited until about a quarter past for it to start. As my sister put it, "they didn't count on any Dortons showing up!" We were sort of raised in a household of strict time keeping.

We were given a hand out to take notes on, as well a quick snapshot of foods to favor and avoid, and toxic make up ingredients to avoid.

Yeah... we're still waiting.

There were about half a dozen tables set up on the fringes that looked like vendors that sold products related to the topic at hand.

Guess who was there?! If you don't recognize this guy, check out my recent adventure at the Water Wellness Center.

Well, since we had so much time to wait, we started checking out the tables. There were handouts everywhere. We loaded up.

This is Karen of Karens Energy in Draper. Several people there seemed to have heard of her. She had some interesting things to say. She sold dry skin brushes that helped circulate your lymph system, which is huge with cancer, because your lymph system dumps the trash to your liver... trash like cancer cells. She was really down to earth and really knew her stuff. I may have to check out her place in Draper for an adventure in the future.

She placed this iodine supplement on our skin to test our iodine levels. If it pools and doesn't spread out you're body has sufficient iodine! When it spreads out, that means your skin is trying to absorb it, because it craves it! Mine spread out more than my sisters. I guess I should start using table salt again?

And we've got the main show! This is Dr. Taylor Krick of Align Family Chiropractic. The presentation started with a video presentation that was filled with several testimonials of cancer patients who had aggressive cancers, and were addressing the camera looking healthy. The first testimonial was from Dr. Charles Majors who had a very advanced brain cancer. The video never really said what happened to the people's cancer who were talking, but I'm going to assume they overcame it, as all of their stories were in the past. It wasn't quite clear from the video, but Dr. Krick told me in the break that Dr. Majors with a few others developed this system "Cancer Killers" that is a 5 tier method to approach overcoming cancer. He even has a book.

This system seemed to me to adapt the eastern method of medicine. The idea of looking at the whole person, not just the symptoms, as western medicine is want to do. Mind, nutrition, exercise, nerve health, and toxicity were the recommended areas of focus.  There didn't seem to be any focus on emotional health, but still pretty comprehensive.

Dr. Krick had us all stand as he introduced the idea of doing a 12 minute work out in short (15 or 20 second?) intervals as a daily practice. It's something everyone can do, and when done right is a real work out that anyone will feel.

We did some air punching. It was a nice break from all the sitting.

After the presentation we were all given the option to set an appointment with Dr. Krick, as well as being able to attend the next three events the clinic has coming up.

There was a presentation on the toxicity in household cleaners, but by this point, we were hungry! So we didn't stay. My sisters did load up on books and supplements.

We didn't leave though before visiting the last vendor. We couldn't get to them before because the crowds were fierce by this table. This is Vive Juicery. Their juices are carried at Zest Cafe, but have no brick and mortar location. They are purely delivery! They will take your juice order to your door from the Avenues to Sandy. Delivery is included in the cost ($8/16 oz, $7 with bottle exchange). They had samples in delightful little glass bottles. And it wasn't bad. The juice I had (Emerald City) tasted very much like other veggie juices I've had. It's an acquired taste, and packed with green nutrients.

Overall I was impressed that so much was here in one place as a resource for someone wanting to make lifestyle changes. Being geared toward a captive audience who've had a wake up call, I think this was a great idea!

Time spent on adventure: 2.5 hours
Money spent: $0 (this is a different story for my sisters)
Recommendation: 8 out of 10 adventure points!
